Abergavenny boosts from a mix of old and new shops in the town centre, from supermarkets such as Waitrose to The Cibi Walk arcade with many high-street names and the added bonus of smaller independent shops and boutiques.
For more active entertainment, the region offers a wealth of possibilities. There is a choice of local golf courses just a few miles from Abergavenny. The Monmouthshire Golf Club is set against the beautiful scenery of the Usk Valley while the Wernddu is in one of the most picturesque positions and also has a floodlit driving range.
The nearby River Usk is widely renowned as one of the best salmon rivers in Wales, but if fishing is a little too sedentary, you could explore the outdoors by a different means. A short stroll will take you into the countryside, while longer walks could lead you to the top of one of several mountains. The Blorenge and The Sugarloaf provide spectacular views while the Skirrid has a steep initial climb, which then breaks out onto a long ridgeway ending by an old ruined chapel at the highest point.
