Prestonpans

The coastal town of Prestonpans is ready to welcome a new community of families to a location that couldn’t be more convenient for Edinburgh, the seaside and the countryside of East Lothian.

If you work in the city, or simply want to be close enough to enjoy all its attractions, this could be the perfect location. Prestonpans is just 8 miles from the centre of Edinburgh and with the bonus of a local train station, you can be at Edinburgh Waverley station in just 15 minutes. That’s excellent for a commute and excellent for a day out on the Golden Mile.

Prestonpans has plenty of amenities of its own, including shops and schools and of course, the beach. All these factors, along with such easy access to Scotland’s capital, make this town a popular choice for a new home and for family life.

Living in Prestonpans

Sport and leisure

East Lothian is famous for its golf courses and this coastal county has certainly set the scene if this is your sport. The Royal Musselburgh Golf Club sets the bar high. To keep the family active, the Meadowmill Sports Centre, Preston Athletic Pitch and Pennypit Park are also on hand.

Local transport

The A1 passes just to the south of the town and is the main route into Edinburgh, linking with the City of Edinburgh Bypass, the A720, just outside Musselburgh. In the other direction the A1 takes you on the coastal route all the way to Newcastle-upon-Tyne, crossing the border into England at Berwick-upon-Tweed. The train station is a great asset, with regular direct services into the city centre.

Local shops

With Fairtrade status, Prestonpans has a good mix of independent shops as well as the back-up of a wider range of facilities and supermarkets in nearby Tranent. Many of Prestonpans shops and cafés are spread out along the High Street (the B1348) which runs parallel to the coast, so you can pick up a takeaway and sit by the sea.
