Living in Chester-Le-Street

Become well connected

To the East, the A1(M) heads up to Washington (3 miles) where it reverts to being the A1 - the main east coast arterial road through Newcastle-upon-Tyne (26 miles), Alnwick (44 miles) and onto Edinburgh (125 miles). To the south, the A1(M) goes through Darlington (28 miles) and onto Leeds (88 miles). The A167 is the link with Durham, 7 miles to the south.

You can take the train to Newcastle-upon-Tyne in just 15 minutes, or down to Durham in a super speedy six minutes. There are really good local bus services throughout the town too, operating from the Picktree Lane Depot. Newcastle International Airport is 17 miles away, usually just over half an hour’s drive.

Plenty to do in the area

The area has a wonderful old high street with plenty of independent shops, a marketplace, a shopping centre and a superstore. The Riverside Ground is home to Durham County Cricket Club, there’s an amateur rowing club making the most of the River Wear and regarded as quite a GB training ground - and there’s a golf club. You are a stone's throw from the Riverside Park including a skatepark and café, and the Waldridge Country Park just outside town. Your new house is also spoilt for choice with schools - there are eight primary schools and two secondary schools!

Out and about

Your new house is perfectly positioned to enjoy all the North East has to offer. The Metrocentre shopping and leisure destination at Gateshead (10 miles), the long sandy beach and pier at South Shields (12 miles), the cobbled streets leading up to Durham Cathedral from the busy market square (9 miles) – and the stunning view from the wild landscapes of the Durham Dales (23 miles) as they meet the North Pennines.
