Whiteley

The South Coast, the South Downs, Southampton – Whiteley is a growing town in a great setting with all these on the doorstep.

It’s as easy to get into Portsmouth as it is to Southampton, with the M27 connecting these two famous coastal cities. Whiteley is just about halfway between the two. It’s also just as easy to get out into the South Downs as it is into the New Forest. Back at home, this family-friendly town has purpose-built amenities for its residents, with a shopping centre that includes high street names and places to eat, and an excellent leisure centre right next to it that includes a nine-screen Cineworld cinema for rainy days. The Solent Business Park has helped to put Whiteley on the map, giving it an all-important balance between retail, leisure and commerce. That’s the key to this area; a balance between the busy port cities and the leisure opportunities of the Solent whether that be on the beach or on the water.

Transport options

The M27 and the M3 are the important motorway routes for this part of the South Coast. They connect with the A31 and the A3 respectively putting the rest of Hampshire, Surrey and Greater London within reach. Trains from Fareham are a convenient alternative to driving into Southampton or Portsmouth, with regular services to cater for a daily commute. For holiday travel, Southampton has a small airport and of course, Portsmouth offers ferry services to France, the Channel Islands and Spain.

A family day out

There is just so much to do in this area whether you are headed for the city or the country. There’s the historic cathedral city of Winchester, the historic dockyard of Portsmouth Harbour, the dramatic Spinnaker Tower – not for the faint-hearted - and the unique open space of the New Forest and the South Downs. The Solent and the Isle of Wight are famous for their sailing havens, and a day by the sea is good for everyone.

Local facilities

The Whiteley Shopping centre, the Meadowside Leisure Centre and the Meadowside Play Park are the focal points for family life here. There are primary schools in the town and secondary schools a short distance away in Fareham and Locks Heath. Both Southampton and Portsmouth have well-respected universities for higher education opportunities close to home.
