From the theatres to museums, galleries to music venues and unique attractions such as York Dungeon and Clifford’s Tower, you will never struggle to fill a weekend or day off. The charming city is also awash with restaurants, cafes, and, as the local tale goes, 365 pubs – one for every day of the year!
There’s a great selection of independent shops in York, and many shopping centres in and around the city including Coppergate Shopping Centre, Vangarde Shopping Park, Monks Cross Shopping Park and McArthur Glen Designer Outlet, which sits 15 minutes south of the city and boasts over 120 stores.
In York and the surrounding area you’ll find a great selection of schools for all ages, including 17 rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted. For older students there’s a number of colleges, including York College and Access Creative College, as well as the highly-regarded University of York.
Great transport links
There are easy links by road to York city centre (A19), Leeds, Harrogate and coastal areas via the A64 and A1M, along with numerous bus routes around the city. Just on the edge of the city centre, York train station provides access to the wider area and direct routes to London and Manchester.
For travel further afield Leeds Bradford Airport is under an hour away, while Manchester Airport can be reached in two hours via a direct train from York station.
