Mayor of Shrewsbury marks the start of construction on exciting new development
15 October 2026
The Mayor of Shrewsbury has officially marked the beginning of construction for a new residential development on the edge of Shrewsbury that will deliver high-quality homes for local people.
Persimmon Homes West Midlands’ Gardeners Walk development will deliver a mix of 226 two- to four-bedroom energy-efficient homes, with solar panels and electric vehicle charging points as standard.
The Mayor, Councillor Bernie Bentick, was joined by Shropshire Councillor for Oteley and Reabrook, Councillor Vicky Moore, when visiting the new development off Throwers Road and opened the new Customer Hub alongside Managing Director for Persimmon Homes West Midlands, Joe Turner.
As part of the development, Persimmon Homes will contribute £1.7 million towards local education through Section 106 funding, along with approximately £540,000 through the Community Infrastructure Levy to support local infrastructure and services.
Additionally, Gardeners Walk will provide around five acres of public open space, a new children's play area and landscaped areas designed to enhance biodiversity. 91 homes will also be provided through affordable rent, shared ownership and discounted sale.
Elaine Brown, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands, commented “We are delighted to see construction begin at Gardeners Walk, creating a vibrant new community on the edge of Shrewsbury. Our Customer Hub is now open, giving prospective customers the opportunity to find out more about the development and experience the high-quality design and thoughtful features of our homes.
We look forward to seeing the development take shape and welcoming the first residents to Gardeners Walk as this new community begins to grow.”
Cllr Vicky Moore, Shropshire councillor for Oteley and Reabrook, said “It’s exciting to see work begin on the new Gardeners Walk development and I am pleased to join the Mayor in opening the site to prospective future residents.
“Shrewsbury is a beautiful place to live and work and I hope the new development can continue to contribute positively to our town.”
