Caring for your new kitchen

As the heart of the home, your kitchen will get plenty of use. Read on for our top tips to maintain your kitchen in excellent condition.

Doors and carcasses

  • Your cupboard doors and carcasses have been made to withstand the normal wear and tear associated with kitchen life.
  • They are resistant to normal cleaning regimes, however any spillages should be wiped up and dried immediately to prevent damage.
  • To ensure the longevity of your units please avoid placing electric kettles, steamers or pans giving off condensation under wall units or across work top joints to avoid condensation damage.

Laminate worktops

  • Protect from heat: Laminate worktops tolerate heat up to 100°C briefly. Always use heat‑resistant mats or trivets under hot pans and dishes.
  • Be careful at joints: Heat can soften joint sealant, allowing water in and causing permanent damage. Never place hot items over joints.
  • Use a chopping board: Cutting directly on the surface can scratch or damage laminate. Always use a board or mat.
  • Clean regularly: Wipe with warm water and mild detergent using a soft cloth.
  • Treat stains gently: Use non‑abrasive cleaners only for stubborn marks.
  • Avoid harsh products: Do not use abrasives, bleach, oven cleaner or wire wool as these can damage the surface.
  • Earthstone worktops: Made with a laminate core and should be cared for in the same way as laminate worktops.

Quartz / Granite worktops

  • Still handle with care: Quartz and granite are more robust than laminate, but heat and water can still cause damage.
  • Joints matter: Although formed differently, joins can fail if exposed to heat or moisture, which may lead to water damage below.
  • Clean gently: Use warm water and mild detergent for everyday cleaning.
  • For stubborn marks: Choose a non‑abrasive or specialist cleaner made for quartz or granite.
  • Avoid harsh products: Strong or abrasive cleaners can discolour or permanently damage the finish.
  • Specialist care: Preparation or rejuvenating products can be used, check with a specialist supplier first.

Stainless steel sinks

  • Stainless steel sinks should ideally be cleaned using warm soapy water, wiped clean and buffed to restore lustre using a dry cloth.
  • Avoid using abrasive cleaners, wire wool or scouring pads as these will cause scratches to form.
  • Bleach can leave permanent marks on stainless steel so any spillage must be washed off immediately with plenty of water containing mild detergent.
