Situated on the west bank of the River Severn, close to the Forest of Dean and just 21 miles from Gloucester, Lydney is a fantastic place to call home. The town's unspoilt harbour area, which dates from the 1870s, is historically important and is a perfect place for an evening stroll.

Plenty to do

There's plenty to do in the local area. Lydney Rugby Club is well-known locally and nationally, there's an open-air swimming pool and leisure centre, plus beautiful walks and cycle paths surrounding the town. There are plenty of open green spaces to enjoy too, with the Lydney Park Estate just a 4 minute drive away, and Bathurst Park 1.3 miles away, next to the grounds of the Lydney Recreation Trust. A little further afield, the Forest of Dean is a 15 minute drive north, where you can take in the stunning surroundings of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Outside swimming pool

Lydney's popular outdoor swimming pool, the Bathurst Swimming Pool built in the 1920s, is open from May until early September. Freedom Leisure Lydney offers amenities at the Dean Academy, the local secondary school. Lydney Golf Club is a nine-hole course.

Schooling for all ages

Lydney caters for all ages, with primary schools and an academy within easy reach. There's Lydney Church of England Community School (2.4 miles), Severnbanks County Primary School (3.2 miles), Primrose Hill C of E Primary School (3.6 miles) and Dean Academy (1.2 miles).

Lydney has excellent transport links which have ensured that it's a vibrant place to both live and work. You'll find a good range of shops, a leisure centre and sports facilities, as well as a range of thriving businesses. The town is also home to a wide variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants, catering for everyone's tastes.

Great transport links

Lydney train station is less than a 5 minute drive from Bishops Mead, with train services heading southwest to Chepstow and Newport, and northeast to Gloucester. Chepstow and Gloucester also have railway stations. The A48 is the main road link between Chepstow and Gloucester.
