Blackwood
Blackwood is halfway between Newport and Merthyr Tydfil in South East Wales. It’s a popular location for a new home because it’s as easy to get to the South Wales M4 corridor for access to Newport, Cardiff and Swansea as it is to the Brecon Beacons National Park for a very different kind of day.
This is a growing community that’s surrounded by farmland and where the main roads are defined by the valleys and hills. In true Welsh tradition, Blackwood has two Rugby Union sides and one Rugby League side, so if you enjoy sport this is a great place to call home.

Services from the bus station link to the nearby railway stations, there’s a 5-screen cinema and a range of local shops in the Blackwood Shopping Centre, and an Asda Superstore is also close to the town centre. Two secondary schools and a choice of primary schools, including Welsh Medium schools, will see your children through their school years.
Good connections
As well as the bus station and the local services that it offers, the rail-link service makes Blackwood a popular choice for a new home for commuters. The town is midway between the A427 and the A4042 – the landscape of valleys here means that the main road routes run north-south, however if you become a local, you’ll soon learn all the other cross-country routes from the town. Cardiff is 17 miles away and Newport is 14 miles away. The nearest junction for the M4 is Junction 32 on the edge of Cardiff.
Good fun
As well as its rugby teams, Blackwood has a cricket club and a golf club. For something a bit less energetic, the 5-screen cinema is a great option for a family outing on a rainy day. A day out in Cardiff offers a long list of entertainment and leisure options for all the family, and for a shopping trip the city centre has quite a reputation. For a breath of fresh air, you can head for the hills – though some of the hills in the Brecon Beacons are quite a challenge!
