Buying a family home with Persimmon
Choosing the right home for your family is a huge decision. Let’s take a look at how a new build makes a great choice for a family home, and some of the ways we can make the process hassle-free and more affordable for you.
Whether you’re ready to welcome a little one and want a place to call your own, or you have a growing brood and need more space for busy everyday life, we have a solution for you.
Many of our new-build homes are designed with family in mind, from practical features inside the home, to safe and welcoming communities you can thrive in.
How we can help you buy a family home
Your family home should be somewhere you can feel comfortable, practical, and most importantly safe.
We’re here to support you in every step of the journey towards your new home. Our sales teams can help you find the most affordable and efficient way to buy, and provide insights on which house might suit your needs best.
Then, once you’ve settled into your new space, you can enjoy all the community, money-saving and low-maintenance benefits that a new build brings.
Part Exchange for an easier move
If you already own a home but are looking for a new one to suit your family’s changing needs, Part Exchange could be the ideal solution.
We take all the hassle out of managing a house sale alongside your purchase, by agreeing a price for your existing home and buying it from you. Leaving you free to move into your new Persimmon home! No chains, no estate agent fees, no stressful deadlines.
Family-friendly communities
Home goes beyond just the walls we live in. It’s the surroundings, the people around us and the atmosphere of a place that really creates that sense of home.
Our Persimmon developments often include family-friendly features such as play areas, green spaces, walkways and proximity to schools and nurseries, giving your children a neighbourhood they can thrive in. Our homes are also typically set on quiet residential streets away from busy main roads, giving you that much needed feeling of reassurance.
Save money with built-in energy-efficiency
In a busy household, keeping tabs on energy usage can be an added consideration. Morning showers, hot meals and rounds of washing can all contribute to energy bills.
New build homes are a fantastic choice if you’re looking to save money on your energy bills, thanks to built-in features such as highly efficient insulation, appliances and heating systems. Many of our homes also come with features such as solar panels, electric vehicle charging and air source heat pumps. All of this means you’ll save thousands each year on your bills, compared to living in an older home.
Enjoy peace of mind with our warranty
After you’ve gone through the process of packing up and moving into a new home, you want to be able to get on with life on your new space – especially if you have little ones.
Instead of an older property where you might have to worry about maintenance and improvements before you can decorate, a new build is ready to live in from day one. All Persimmon homes also come with a 10-year new homes warranty and insurance policy, with the first 2 years covered directly by us. That means we’ll take care of your home, so that you can take care of your family.
We created the Persimmon Pledge to ensure you feel supported through your buying journey.
Tips for buying a family home
Ready to start your search for a new home for your family? Here are some important things to keep in mind.
1. Choosing the right property
When it comes down to looking for a home it pays to narrow down your search and be selective. And working out what you want from your new home is a good starting point.
When you’re choosing a new home it’s easy to buy with your heart and ignore the practicalities. So, before you begin searching, write a list of the qualities and features your home will need to match your lifestyle.
2. Do your homework on the location
Location is a key consideration. So make use of the internet and Google maps to investigate different areas quickly and conveniently. Once you've chosen an area, double-check it for accessibility.
Can you easily commute to work, are your friends and family close by, are there open green spaces nearby to enjoy, and are there good transport links? What are the schools like and are you within easy reach of shops, restaurants and bars? If you have set your heart on living in a particular postcode, or street, make time to visit it at different times of the day and get a feel for the local environment.

3. Timing is key
When you find a home and are happy with the location, make sure there is sufficient space for your belongings. Is there enough room to grow into? Can you see yourself living there in 5 years' time?
If the answer to all these is ‘yes’, it pays to move fast and put in an offer, before someone else does. One of the best things about a new Persimmon home is you can reserve it with a relatively small reservation fee.
