Earls Colne

New homes in Earls Colne

The village of Earls Colne is a bit of a treat. A quiet place in the country, with easy access to Colchester and Braintree, the UK’s oldest town, two of Essex’s key working towns, and to the small town of Halstead, just 4 miles away, for a wide range of local facilities and supermarkets. This location to the north of the county is within reach of London Stansted Airport to the west, and the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the east, a real contrast of amenities.

Living in Earls Colne

Great location

Earls Colne is just enough off the beaten track to keep that sought-after village community feel. It’s close enough to the A120 and A131 to get you quickly to Colchester and Braintree, each just 10 miles away, and to the A12 for a connection with the M25 for Greater London and the Dartford Tunnel. Another convenient factor is the easy drive to London Stansted International Airport and the M11 – both just 26 miles away.

Village life

The village provides its residents with a primary school, a surgery, a recreation club, golf club and tennis club. There’s a convenience store and a range of other shops and services on your doorstep. Colchester is an excellent day out for retail therapy shopping with friends and for evenings out, with its great choice of places to eat. On the village calendar is the annual Four Colnes Show, bringing together the sister villages of White Colne, Colne Engaine and Wakes Colne, and hosted by Earls Colne.

In the area

Out and about in the immediate area, the Colne Valley Local Nature Reserve makes the most of the meandering River Colne and its series of mini lakes. This is a beautiful rural part of Essex. A little further afield, but easy for a day out, the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is shared between Essex and Suffolk. Wander over the border and discover the Suffolk Heaths & Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and some of the ancient villages such as Lavenham.
