Uckfield

Uckfield is about 20 miles from the coast but has the bright lights of Brighton on the horizon and the rest of the South Coast within reach for a quieter seaside experience.

The town is surrounded by the lovely East Sussex countryside and with the A22 on its western edge, it’s easy to get up to the M25 and down to Eastbourne. This is definitely a county for the great outdoors and it’s good to have the balance of a home town with a really good range of facilities and amenities. Uckfield has another bonus – it’s only 22 miles from Gatwick Airport putting international travel within easy reach.

Home town

Uckfield is a good-sized town with plenty of amenities on hand. There are five primary schools and a secondary school for your children, a railway station for commuters – Uckfield is connected to London Bridge station on the Oxted line. There are excellent local bus services, and you can catch the National Express coast to London too. Local shops, supermarkets and a superstore give you plenty of choice. There’s a hospital, a leisure centre with a pool, a Picture House cinema and several places to eat out or takeaway.

The coast

As well as Brighton, which certainly has a claim to fame as a great place to get to know, you can plan beach days at some of the South Coast’s favourites – Worthing, Hastings, Eastbourne, Bexhill on Sea and Littlehampton.

On the road

As well as the A22, useful routes from Uckfield include the A26 which heads to Royal Tunbridge Wells, 15 miles away. Haywards Heath is 11 miles away on the A272 and you can join the M23 at Crawley for the short link to the M25.
