Wantage
Wantage is a pretty market town located in the south of Oxfordshire between Swindon and Oxford on the northern edge of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Largely known as the birthplace of King Alfred the Great 849AD, whose statue stands in the Market Place.

While famously calling for bombs to fall on Slough, poet Sir John Betjeman, who was born and lived in Wantage, can be found quoted on sculptures throughout The Betjeman Park. The town annual hosts a five-week annual Arts Festival devoted to art, poetry, music, dance, film and food!
Activities and schools
The Vale & Downland Museum hosts many family-friendly events as well as having a permanent collection devoted to interpreting the cultural heritage of the Vale of White Horse. Just south, there’s Manor Park Memorial Gardens with a play area and splash pad water feature.

The nearest railway station is Didcot Parkway (7 miles) with direct services to London Paddington in under 40 minutes as well as Swindon and the South West. Commuting from your new home to Reading or Newbury takes around 50 minutes. The M4 also offers easy journeys to London (72 miles) and Bristol (63 miles). Oxford is less than 20 miles north east, and takes around 30 minutes on the A420.
