Forces Help to Buy Scheme: Support for British Armed Forces

The Forces Help to Buy Scheme (FHTB) is designed to help British Armed Forces personnel take the first step onto the property ladder and make owning a forces home more achievable for those who need a helping hand.

How does the Forces Help to Buy Scheme Work?

The Forces Help to Buy (FHTB) scheme is a government-backed initiative that enables British Service personnel to borrow up to 50% of their annual salary (capped at £25,000) to put towards buying a home.

Whether you're a first-time buyer or need to move due to a new assignment or extenuating circumstances, FHTB can help make owning a forces home more accessible.

Please note, your marital or civil partnership status does not affect eligibility.

How much can I borrow with the FHTB Scheme?

Yes, FHTB can be utilised with our Armed Forces Discount which means you can buy with just a 5% deposit and get a discount of up to £25,000.

How does the Forces Help to Buy Scheme work with mortgages?

You’ll need a mortgage lender willing to accept FHTB as part of your deposit. Most lenders do offer products in conjunction with FHTB, but it's best to make sure before you apply. Please note, if you’re using a mortgage broker you should let them know upfront that you plan to use the scheme.

Yes. The FHTB Scheme is separate to other Help to Buy schemes, and can be used in conjunction with Help to Buy Wales
