Are you ready for the move?

From collecting the keys to your first few days in your new home and beyond – we make the process as easy as possible.

Declutter and organise

Before you exchange contracts it’s a good idea to begin de-cluttering your home, as it can often take longer than you think.

At this stage, it’s also worth collecting packing materials and boxes and contacting removal firms for quotations. And once you have a definite moving date, you’ll be well-prepared for life in your new home.

Pack using three simple categories

When the exchange is complete, apart from big furniture and appliances, start arranging your belongings into three categories:

1. Daily necessaries

These are items needed on the day of the move, such as toasters, kettles for much-needed cups of tea, towels and bed linen.

2. Important, but not urgent

This includes items such as TVs, computers and clothes.

3. Non-essential

Often fragile or sentimental in value, these items include ornaments, books, paintings and so on. It can be wise therefore to pack these well, mark the boxes and pack them last in your chosen transportation.

Spread the word

When you have your moving date agreed, it’s important to notify businesses, services and people of your new address. The basics include your bank, local council, and your gas, water, electricity, phone, and internet providers.

Remember to also let your employer know, plus, any relevant education providers. And arranging for the Post Office to redirect your mail can save a lot of future hassle too.

Arranging moving day

To make moving day easy, here are a few options to help lighten the load.

For a done-for-you service, search for removal companies in your area. Also, asking family and friends to help with the process, can make it a memorable and cherished experience. Remember to plan your move with plenty of time and be sure arrange time off work if needed.

Solicitors, contracts and completions

The legal process of buying a new home is complicated and vitally important. However, your chosen solicitor will handle this all for you.

And every step of the way, from signing the contracts to exchange and completion, we’ll be there to help make the process straightforward and easy.

Moving in day

Your moving-day box

As part of your preparations, we recommend you put in a box all your essential items for the day. For example, mobile phones, tea, coffee, toiletries, cleaning cloths, and a handy takeaway menu (trust us, you’ll be too tired to cook!)

If you have children or pets, it may also be worth arranging for a relative to look after them during the move.

Collecting your keys

When the smile-inducing day has arrived and it’s time to pick up your keys, you'll be asked to sign a key release form that confirms their safe receipt. This will also cover your final meter readings and a complete check on the quality of your new home.

Your first few days

As soon as you move in, our friendly site management team will be available, so you have complete peace of mind. And when you're settled, at your convenience, they will also check to make sure everything meets your expectations – and surpasses our own.

We’ll be on hand to help directly with our two-year warranty, and every home is also protected with a ten-year New Homes Warranty.

Persimmon Pledge
