Living in Acklam

Everything you need

You’ll find everything you need for day-to-day living here, the main route that links the suburb. There are plenty of supermarkets, butchers, a bakery, a post office, a fish bar and several more shops and pubs, all within a few minutes of your new build. For a wider range of shops, hop on the bus to Middlesbrough to enjoy the shopping area, home to a selection of independent stores, high street names and luxury brands, plus lots of bars and eateries. Or, 10 minutes from your new house, you’ll find Teesside Shopping Park, a sprawling retail centre with a wide range of supermarkets and clothing brands.

Good choice of schools

Families with children of all ages are well-catered for, with local schools including Acklam Whin Primary School, Green Lane Primary Academy and Kader Academy for younger children, whilst secondary-age pupils can attend one of two schools. All the schools are well-regarded, mainly being rated as Good by Ofsted.

Adventures available

Despite its proximity to the city, there are plenty of opportunities to explore green spaces. The Avenue of Trees is a popular local attraction, a wide and attractive stretch of lawn lined with lime trees planted at the end of the 17th century, as well as beech trees and Scots pines. The area is a favourite among runners and walkers.

Other pleasant spots include the Meadow, and, a few minutes’ drive from your new house you'll find Stewart Park with its deer, highland cattle, llamas, goats and pets’ corner. Locally there are sports clubs, including Middlesbrough Rugby Club and Middlesbrough Municipal Golf Centre.

You're well connected

Ideally positioned for commuters, your new house is located just off the A19, which will take you north to Middlesbrough in 10 minutes, east to the coast in 18 minutes, and south to York in an hour. The area is well connected by a bus network, and for rail travel you’ll find three stations (Middlesbrough, Thornaby and James Cook Hospital), within 10 minutes. For travel further afield, Teesside International Airport is just over 11 miles away.
