Living in Falmouth
Life on the Cornish Coast
With Falmouth offering gorgeous beaches, including Gyllyngvase, Castle Beach, Swanpool and Maenporth, a new home here provides a permanent holiday atmosphere and lifestyle. Plus, breakfast out on the coastline at one of the beach cafes is a bit of an institution.
For even more golden sand, you can hop on a seasonal ferry over to St Mawes. And for seaside walks, a new home here offers a great starting point for the South West Coastal Path – the stunning scenery of the Cornish coast is a year-round delight.
Creative culture and family-friendly amenities
A town that’s got its work-life balance right, it seems that all roads lead to the harbour or the beach. Along with the visitors that come here on holiday, the town is also home to Falmouth University and the renowned Falmouth School of Art, which add to the culture of this vibrant town. The high street has a great mix of familiar stores, independent shops, galleries, cafés and restaurants – and for a larger range of shops, nearby Truro’s high street provides shopping on a bigger scale.
For education opportunities, the town has plenty of primary schools, including St Mary’s Catholic Primary School which was previously rated as ‘outstanding’. Falmouth School covers secondary education, and students can also opt to attend Truro and Penwith College for further education (one of the best colleges in the UK). For adult education and part-time courses, you've got a university on the doorstep.
An ideal seaside location
Off the A39, the town has a direct link to Truro and the far south of the county via the A394. Plus, the A30 and the A390 are the main road routes east.
For travel by rail, there are three train stations which connect you to Falmouth Docks, Penmere and Truro for mainline services to Exeter and on to London. Also, Falmouth Town station is right in the centre and is just a few minutes’ walk to the waterfront. There’s also a very convenient Shuttle Bus service, a 20-minute loop linking the town and the coast.
