Dudley

New homes in Dudley

Along with Walsall, West Bromwich, and Wolverhampton, Dudley is one of the West Midlands’ main towns. Along with Solihull, Stourbridge, and Sutton Coldfield, it’s part of the Greater Birmingham area.

All these towns share a long-standing industrial heritage, as the hard-working neighbours to Birmingham, the centre of attention and the UK’s second-largest city. Dudley is to the west of this wider area and is just 8 miles from Birmingham.

Putting down your roots in Dudley has all the advantages of city life, shopping and entertainment, and all the advantages of the transport infrastructure for business and industry. The M5 runs just to the east of Dudley, joining the M6 at Junction 8 just to the north. If you want to escape to the country for a day out, you’ll be just a stone’s throw from the lovely countryside of Shropshire, the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Severn Valley.

Local amenities

Dudley is no different to any other town, with a balance of town centre shops and places to eat – you’ll soon have a list of favourites - along with an out-of-town shopping centre at Merry Hill and the usual choice of supermarkets.  For families, it has the unique addition of Dudley Zoo and Castle at its heart. To stretch your legs, there are several nature reserves around Dudley – Sheepwash, Barrow Hill, Cotwall End, Buckpool, Saltwells and Bumble Hole. That’s plenty to keep your children in touch with wildlife and nature. You’ll find your favourite amongst these too.

Local infrastructure

Good transport links are part and parcel of choosing a base to call home. Dudley has the advantage of both the M5 and the M6 within easy reach, putting the North West and the South West on the map. West Midlands Trains operates services from the local stations at Dudley Port, Tipton, Coseley and Sandwell & Dudley. For international travel, it takes just over an hour to drive the 26 miles to Birmingham Airport.

Local highlights

The castle and the zoo probably take the top spot in Dudley, while the Black Country Living Museum takes you right back in time. It’s a great place to learn about the history of your hometown. West Bromwich Albion Football Club is nearby too if you’re a fan, and who isn’t going to enjoy Cadbury World at Bourneville for a full-on chocolate experience. Spend a day at the Bullring & Grand Central for a taste of what Birmingham has to offer.
