Shop ‘til you drop

As a long-standing market town, Barnsley is awash with retail opportunities with something to suit everyone. There are numerous high street shops, services and eateries to be found around the town centre and in the Alhambra Shopping Centre. Excitingly, Barnsley is currently undergoing a multi-million pound regeneration project, with a brand new shopping and entertainment venue, The Glass Works, set to open in 2021. Situated in prime position in front of the train station, the Glass Works will offer a wide range of popular brands, restaurants, a bowling alley, Laser Quest, soft play centre and a 13-screen cinema.

Of course you can’t forget the markets, which are a huge part of Barnsley’s identity. Inside the Glass Works you’ll find the revamped indoor market. With over 100 stalls spread across two floors, it’s a fantastic way to support local businesses in a comfortable, modern environment. Then there’s the outdoor market, which takes place 4 days a week, and the weekly second-hand market for eagle-eyed bargain hunters.
