Green-fingered students at Caister Academy are set to grow their school allotment project, thanks to a £3,500 donation from Persimmon Homes Anglia.
The funding, part of Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme, will help the school expand its allotment . The donation will also extend their subscription to the Papillon Project which is an educational charity that promotes sustainable living and environmental awareness.
The donation follows the launch of Persimmon Homes brand-new Mulberry Park development in Caister, where a range of new homes from the 5-star builder are now available for sale. This donation is the latest example of the company's ongoing commitment to supporting local communities where is delivering much needed new homes.
Whilst visiting, Michelle Baker, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes Anglia said:
“We’re absolutely delighted to support Caister Academy’s allotment project. The Academy’s garden is a brilliant way for young people to learn skills outside of the classroom whilst spending time outdoors. With our new Mulberry Park development just down the road, we’re proud to be playing a small part in helping our neighbouring school thrive.”
Also in attendance from Persimmon Homes Anglia was Debi Sherman, Head of Planning and Governor at Caister Academy. Debi commented:
“This funding allows students to develop a space they can really take ownership of. It’s been great to see the growth in students taking part in the Papillon Project and this funding allocation will continue their subscription to the project but will also allow them to purchase a new shed and equipment.”
The allotment project is already a popular part of school life, with extra vegetables and fruits grown being used in other classes such as Food Tech.
Charlotte Mijatovic, Raising Achievement Mentor said:
“Caister Academy is immensely grateful to Persimmon Homes for their generous donation. Their kindness ensures the future of the school's community garden by allowing for vital improvements, as well as our continued membership to the Papillon Project's community of schools providing horticultural spaces to students. On behalf of those students I offer my whole hearted thanks."
