The Holme Pierrepont Country Park is home to the National Water Sports Centre, and is less than an hour’s drive from the town. A training ground for top athletes, the park is open to the public too, with plenty of family fun activities to get involved in. Newstead Abbey, just up the road, has 300 acres of parkland that includes lakes, ponds and waterfalls. Not to mention the River Trent, flowing under the historic Trent Bridge in nearby Nottingham, is the third-longest river in the UK.

The town has a pedestrianised high street, making it a very family-friendly place to shop. Plus, the weekly markets in the heart of the town are also a big part of its bustling and warm vibe. For supermarket shopping there’s big well-known brands available, and for leisure, the award-winning Hucknall’s Titchfield Park is just a 10-minute walk from the town centre. There’s also a leisure centre with two swimming pools, sports courts and plenty of activities and classes for children.
For education, there are many good primary options to choose from, including Broomhill Junior School which previously scored very highly. There’s also a secondary school, and the Hucknall Sixth Form Centre for higher education tuition.
