800 more homes for local people in Stroud

Stroud plan of new homes.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has secured outline planning permission for 796 new homes in Cam, Stroud following a successful appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.

As part of the verdict, Severn Valley region has full planning consent for the first 226 houses. Future reserved matters applications will determine the details of the remaining balance. 30% of homes will be reserved for local people through a housing association.

The scheme, due to be delivered on land west of the A4135 and allocated for housing in the Local Plan, safeguards land for a primary school, provides new vehicular access off the A-road, and public open space. The plans also increase on-site biodiversity and include a play area.

This is in addition to over £4.35m for local infrastructure and services including public transport, primary and secondary education, libraries, healthcare, and policing demonstrating significant investment from Persimmon that would not otherwise be forthcoming without housebuilding.

Severn Valley region took their long-standing application to the Planning Inspectorate as Stroud District Council did not determine the application in accordance with the proscribed time limit as set out in law.

Commenting on the development, Persimmon Homes Severn Valley’s managing director, Claire Burton, said:

“We are delighted to announce that we've received outline planning permission to provide high-quality, new housing solutions for local people in the Stroud district.

“With a severe housing crisis facing the country, this project is an exciting opportunity to mitigate this challenge by building these essential homes for local people.

“This continues our demonstrable commitment to leaving a positive and lasting legacy in the areas in which we build. We thank Stroud District Council’s development committee for not challenging our appeal, recognising the merits of our undetermined scheme.

“Persimmon looks forward to continuing our work with stakeholders in Cam as we seek to deliver quality new homes, jobs, and infrastructure for local communities.”
