A 95-year-old man has visited a new housing development to see a street named in honour of his father, who served in both World Wars.
Peter Brumby joined seven members of his family at West Midlands’ St John’s Grange development for the unveiling of Brumby Lane, named after his father Victor Brumby.
The occasion marked a poignant moment for the family, who were invited to the development to commemorate Victor’s service and connection to the local area.
The visit brought together three generations of the family, who gathered beside the new street sign to remember Victor’s service and mark the tribute.
For Peter, who recently celebrated his 95th birthday, the occasion was particularly poignant as he saw his father’s name become part of a growing new community.
The unveiling forms part of a wider initiative at St John’s Grange, where streets across the development have been named after local WWI and WWII veterans to help ensure their memory lives on as part of the new community in Lichfield.
Victor Brumby served in both World Wars and Brumby Lane was chosen as a lasting way to recognise his contribution and connection to the area.
Commenting on the occasion, Stephen Brumby said “On behalf of our family, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for this incredible honour.
To have a road named after VICTOR BRUMBY in recognition of his service in both World Wars is deeply moving and humbling. His courage, sacrifice, and dedication to his country reflected the values of his generation — duty, resilience, and service before self.
We are profoundly thankful that his contribution has been remembered in such a meaningful and lasting way. This tribute not only honours his life but also serves as a reminder to future generations of the sacrifices made by so many during times of war.
Our family is immensely proud, and we thank everyone involved in making this recognition possible.”
Elaine Brown, Sales Director for West Midlands, said: “As much as our developments are all about embracing the new, it is also important to remember the past and what has come before us. To see Peter unveil the sign for a street named after his father was incredibly moving. We’re proud to honour Victor Brumby’s service in this way and create a lasting tribute within the community.”
