Community donation helps Albrighton Cricket Club continue to thrive

West Midlands has donated £6,000 to Albrighton Cricket Club through its Community Champions scheme.

Founded more than 100 years ago, Albrighton Cricket Club has become a valued part of the local community, welcoming players of all ages from junior members to senior and ladies’ teams.

The donation will contribute to the next phase of the club's redevelopment programme, which includes refurbishing the exterior of the 40-year-old clubhouse, upgrading its changing rooms and showers, and installing a new media wall. This aims to create a more welcoming environment for local players, members and the wider community.

The donation was officially presented to Albrighton Cricket Club by Councillor Nigel Lumby, unitary councillor for Albrighton at Shropshire Council and Lee Perry, Technical Director at Persimmon Homes West Midlands.

Daren Shimmons, Albrighton Cricket Club’s Chairman, commented:

"We are incredibly grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous £6,000 donation. As a volunteer-run club, this support will help us enhance our facilities and continue providing opportunities for everyone in our local cricket community for generations to come”

Councillor Nigel Lumby, unitary councillor for Albrighton at Shropshire Council added:

"It is fantastic to see Persimmon Homes, as a new developer in Albrighton, reaching out and supporting the local community through this £6,000 donation.

Albrighton Cricket Club continues to go from strength to strength, particularly through its growing youth provision. This funding will support important improvements to the club’s facilities and infrastructure, helping to meet the increasing demand.”
