Community donation helps North Northamptonshire Veggie Patch tackle food poverty

Persimmon Homes Midlands has donated £3000 to The Daylight Centre Fellowship through its Community Champions scheme in support of their Daylight Veggie Patch project.

The Veggie Patch is just-over-an-acre site in Wollaston that provides a welcoming space for people to grow fresh fruit and vegetables, learn new skills and volunteer in the community. Produce is used by the community kitchen and foodbank to help provide fresh, nutritious food to those experiencing food poverty.

The site also operates as a social enterprise, generating income through vegetable boxes, handmade crafts, jams, chutneys and plants. Most importantly, it helps people build confidence, improve their wellbeing and develop valuable skills.

The donation was formally presented to The Daylight Centre Fellowship by Councillor Sylvia Erskine, Mayor of Wellingborough, Councillor Jonathan Carvetta, Ward Councillor for Brickhill and Queensway, and David Ablett, Managing Director Persimmon Homes Midlands.

“I am delighted to hear that The Daylight Centre Fellowship has been awarded a £3,000 Community Champions grant from Persimmon Homes in support of its Daylight Veggie Patch project.

The Veggie Patch provides a fantastic space for local people to come together, learn new skills and grow fresh fruit and vegetables, while also helping to support those experiencing food poverty. This donation will be particularly valuable in helping the project continue its important work in the community.”
