Council Leader Visits New Homes Taking Shape in Wakefield

Leader of Wakefield Council, Karl Johnson has visited a housing development under construction in the city.

The Council Leader was hosted by Persimmon Homes at their Jubilee Gardens site off the A650.

Joined by Cabinet member for Housing, Andrew Wakefield, the Councillors were given a tour of the site that will deliver 314 new homes when completed.

60 of the homes are classed as ‘Affordable’ with homes being provided for social rent and shared ownership.

This particular phase follows on from Persimmon’s now completed Kingsbury Meadows development next door which also provided 296 new homes of which 22 were delivered to a housing provider or sold at a discount.

Councillor Karl Johnson, Leader of Wakefield Council said “It was great to see the progress of this new development during my visit. These homes will offer people a nice community atmosphere and are just a short distance from the city centre.”

Sam Sowrey, Managing Director for Persimmon West Yorkshire said “It was great to host the new Council Leader alongside Councillor Wakefield at our Jubilee Gardens site.

“There’s a wide mix of homes available at Jubilee Gardens and so it was welcome to be able to showcase the different types of homes on offer.

“With housing rightly high up the agenda, we’re keen to continue playing our part in helping deliver high-quality new housing in Wakefield that local homebuyers can afford.”
