North Lanarkshire Council Leadership hear how new homes will support local families

North Lanarkshire Council Leader Jim Logue and Chief Executive Des Murray visited Persimmon Homes West Scotland’s Royale Meadows development in Muirhead this week to see the latest progress on one of the area’s largest new housing projects.

They were welcomed by Persimmon Managing Director Chris Logan and Land Director Craig Moore, who outlined the scale of the development, now in its second phase and set to deliver 292 energy-efficient homes for local families. During the visit, they also met apprentices from Moodiesburn, Coatbridge, Airdrie and Motherwell who have been recruited as a result of the investment being made in the community.

A key focus of the visit was the delivery of 44 affordable homes that will be transferred to Sanctuary Scotland, helping to reduce North Lanarkshire’s 12,000-strong housing waiting list.

The development has also brought more than £1.2 million of investment to the local area, including £140,000 for upgraded play park facilities and £200,000 towards local road improvements.

The visit comes shortly after Persimmon West Scotland won Best Health and Safety in the Community at the Homebuilder Safety Awards 2025, recognising its partnership work with St Barbara’s Primary School in Muirhead.

Jim Logue, Leader of North Lanarkshire Council said:

“Projects like Royale Meadows show exactly what progress looks like in our communities. These new homes will support families who need them most, create jobs for local people, and bring real investment into Muirhead, not just in housing, but in roads, play parks and community facilities.

“It’s great to see apprentices from right here in North Lanarkshire building their future on site. This development is another step forward in improving lives and opportunities for our residents, and I’m proud of what’s being achieved.”

Chris Logan, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes West Scotland, added:

“We were delighted to welcome the Leader and Chief Executive of North Lanarkshire Council to Royale Meadows. Their support and engagement are vital as we continue to invest in Muirhead and deliver much-needed, high-quality homes.

“We’re proud of the positive impact this development is already having on local families, community groups, and young people starting their careers in construction.”

Through its Community Champions programme, Persimmon has also supported a range of local groups, including Moodiesburn Scout Group, The Gartcosh Fishing Group, and in partnership with Sanctuary Scotland and Auchengeich Boxing Club, which received £10,000 towards a major gym refurbishment.
