Developer donation for Neath pupils

Wales’ largest housebuilder has chosen Ysgol Maes y Coed as the latest winner of its Community Champions scheme.
Persimmon Homes West Wales presented the £1,000 cheque to pupils and teachers at the school in Brynoch near Neath.
Ysgol Maes y Coed is a very welcoming and open school with caring staff who cater for young people with a variety of complex learning difficulties from the ages of two to 19.
The school runs an initiative “19 Things” where they aim to give every pupil the opportunity to have at least 19 different experiences by the time they leave school. These include trips and competitions that may be difficult for its pupils to access outside of school support. This is all funded by the PTFA to ensure each child can have the same opportunities as their peers.
The accredited five-star developer has a site in 20 minutes in Gorseinon, Cwrt y Brenin, which currently has three and four-bed homes available from £280,000, and has recently completed its very popular Awel Afan development in Port Talbot.
Persimmon donates £50,000 each year to good causes and much-valued organisations across Wales as part of its Community Champions scheme. Recent local recipients include Gorseinon Cricket Club, Ystradgynlais RFC, Penllergaer AFC, and Llangynwyd Rangers FC.
Commenting, Persimmon Homes West Wales Sales Director Sharon Bouhali said “We’re really pleased to be able to support Ysgol Maes y Coed with this donation today.
“Having recently built a development just up the road in Rhos – with plans to bring more much-needed homes in the region – we know just how much this school is appreciated by parents and its pupils.
“We wanted the reward the hard-working staff here with this helping hand, which we are very happy to hear will go towards facilitating exciting opportunities for its pupils.
Catherine Tucker, Deputy Headteacher at Ysgol Maes y Coded, added “We pride ourselves on our warm, caring and supportive atmosphere; a place where young people can flourish, learn, enjoy, be happy and safe – and value and encourage support of parents, professionals, and friends.
“This donation from Persimmon is very much appreciated and will help us fund visits and away days for our pupils to engage in educational, cultural, and sporting activities, allowing them to play a full part in participating in fun and social events.”
