Helping the Lord Mayor spread Christmas cheer in Canterbury
22 December 2025
A fund designed to support vulnerable families and individuals in Canterbury over Christmas has been boosted by a donation from the South East region.
They donated £1,000 towards the Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund.
Each year the Lord Mayor and a team of volunteers raise thousands of pounds ahead of the festive season and turn donations into vouchers for either a supermarket shop or gifts from a toy and craft shop.
The South East team contributed earlier this year for the 2025 fund and the latest donation will be used next Christmas, with fundraising continuing into the New Year.
The vouchers are handed to family centres and other umbrella organisations early in the Christmas season to distribute to those who are isolated or vulnerable.
The Lord Mayor of Canterbury, Cllr Keji Moses, thanked the team during a visit to Tower House in the heart of Canterbury. She said:
“This generous donation will make a big difference to families living in Canterbury, we have a worrying number of families and individuals who struggle to buy the basics and these vouchers make a huge difference at this time of year.”
Tony Loughran, Chair of the Lord Mayor of Canterbury’s Christmas Gift Fund, said:
“There are sadly an increasing number of families here in Canterbury who need our help and by donating to this fund we are able to support even more and ensure they can have a meal this Christmas.”
Danny Wood, Operations Director for Persimmon Homes South East, said:
“It is a pleasure to be able to support this fund and know we are helping the Lord Mayor and her team give families a few extra treats this Christmas.
“At Persimmon we pride ourselves on creating a positive legacy in the community, just as the Lord Mayor does here in Canterbury.”
