Sunderland Central MP Lewis Atkinson has welcomed a donation from Persimmon to a community group in Ryhope.
The MP joined representatives from Persimmon to present a cheque for £3,000 to Ryhope Community Spirit.
The presentation took place at Persimmon’s St Michaels Way development currently under construction in South Ryhope.
Ryhope Community Spirit have been awarded the funding after applying to Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative.
Commenting on the award, George Donnelly, of Ryhope Community Spirit, said: “It was nice to meet the team from Persimmon Homes and Lewis, who kindly volunteered to come out with the group on a litter pick.
“The donation will make a massive difference to the work we do for our wonderful community over the next 12 month and beyond.”
Lewis Atkinson MP said: “As places like Ryhope grow, it's important that local people see the benefits too, whether that's investment in local infrastructure or support for community organisations.
"I was delighted to join Ryhope Community Spirit as they received the £3,000 donation from Persimmon. Their volunteers do a fantastic job bringing people together throughout the year, and this partnership is a great example of how developers can help build not just new homes, but stronger, more connected communities as well."
Karl Duffield, Persimmon Durham Technical Director, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Lewis and George to our St Michael’s Way development and we hope our donation goes far in helping Ryhope Community Spirit.”
