Newcastle cancer charity doing 'vital' research celebrates donation

A Newcastle-based charity carrying out “vital” research into children’s cancer is celebrating after receiving a donation from Persimmon Homes.
Persimmon donated £1,000 to Children’s Cancer North through the Community Champions scheme.
Representatives from Persimmon and Newcastle City Council Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, Health and Prevention visited the charity, in Newcastle University, to see the life-changing work they are doing first-hand.
The charity say the donation will go far in helping to support cancer research and PHD student’s vital work.
Tiago Santos, Children’s Cancer North, said: Corporate Partnerships Officer, "As a local charity, Children's Cancer North are incredibly lucky to be supported by the North East business community - a community that has proved, time and again, just how charitable it is.
“We are delighted to have received a donation of £1,000 from Persimmon Homes to help us keep funding vital paediatric cancer research, support children, young people and their families, and raise awareness of childhood cancer throughout the region!
“It is through support like this that we are able to keep working towards our mission of making life better for children with cancer in the North East and Cumbria."
Richard Cook, Persimmon North East Land Director, said: “It was a pleasure to visit Children’s Cancer North and meet the team. Seeing first-hand the pioneering work they are doing was inspiring and we are proud to support them.
“We hope this donation goes far in supporting the crucial work they are doing.”
Cllr Adam Walker, Newcastle City Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care, health and prevention, said: “It is great that we have Children’s Cancer North in our city.
“Not only is it a fantastic centre of excellence, bringing together expert clinical and research teams to advance our understanding of how to treat childhood cancers, but it supports children and families at what can be one of life’s toughest times.
“It is great to see our business community supporting those aims and helping to make life a little better for those battling cancer.”
