Persimmon donation to Suffolk based sailing charity

25 August 2026

A sailing charity has kickstarted their fundraising drive for a new home for their fleet of boats thanks to a £2,500 donation from the Suffolk region.

Neptune Sailing successfully applied for a Community Champions grant from Suffolk team as they embarked on a mission to replace their ageing facilities with a fit-for-purpose new storage centre at their base at Woolverstone Marina and are hoping to have enough funds to complete the project this winter.

The charity provides sailing opportunities for young people from all backgrounds, helping them develop confidence, teamwork and practical skills.

Neptune Sailing works hard to remove barriers to participation, ensuring that children and young people who may not otherwise be able to afford sailing lessons can access training and experience the benefits the sport can offer.

Our Suffolk team are currently building new communities across the county including Constable Vale at Hadleigh and Trelawny Place, Felixstowe, with an application submitted for 121 new homes on Phase 4 of the Henley Gate development in Ipswich.

Lucy Woodhall, Sales Director for Persimmon Homes Suffolk, said: "It has been an honour to meet the children taking part in the sailing workshop this week and see how they are embracing the opportunities offered to them by the volunteers at Neptune Sailing.

“We know how important organisations like this are in creating positive futures for young people, and we are proud to be able to contribute to their work."

Robert Horn, Principal at Neptune Sailing, said: "We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes Suffolk for this generous donation.

"Our aim is to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to experience sailing, regardless of their background or financial circumstances. This support will help us create a safe, weatherproof storage facility to preserve our sails so we can continue delivering these programmes and enable even more young people to enjoy time on the water, learn valuable life skills and discover a lifelong passion for sailing."
