Living in a Persimmon Alnwick with young children

With a growing family to care for, first time buyers Kealy and Colby knew that their new home had to provide space for their young children and a safe, welcoming community. They found all of that and more when they reserved their Persimmon Alnwick in 2020.

A place to call home

Kealy and her partner Colby, both 26, decided to make the move from rented accommodation to their first home in June 2022.

"I knew I wanted a new build as our first home, so we came and viewed a few Persimmon homes," says Kealy. "We reserved our Persimmon Alnwick on the 14th June 2020. We'd rented in the past, but it felt very different and special that we could finally make a house into a home."

The two-bedroom Alnwick provided just the right amount of space they were looking for.

Kealy says: "The bedrooms totally surprised me as they are two double sized bedrooms with plenty of room, and one coming with extra storage!"

"The kitchen was also the perfect size for us, with plenty of cupboard and counter space. There's also space for a dining table, and plenty of room for a high chair."

"We'd rented in the past, but it felt different and special that we could finally make a house into a home"

Putting family first

Kealy and Colby initially moved into their new Alnwick with their young son Bowen, now 3, and have since welcomed baby Blossom last year. Finding the right amount of space for their children, including storage for their toys, was a must.

"One of my priorities was having a big enough bedroom for Bowen to grow into," says Kealy. "We chose the back bedroom for Bowen as it's more of a rectangular shape, so we thought it would be best for him to have enough room as possible."

"However, we then decided we would like another baby," she explains. "Thankfully the back bedroom was plenty big enough for two children sharing, and even then there's so much floor space for their toys. The room set up as a bedroom for two children works perfectly, and if anything I feel more relaxed knowing my children are in the same bedroom."

The issue of storage was also solved by the Alnwick.

Kealy says: "For a two-bedroom house, our Alnwick has so many storage areas. We have two cupboards under the stairs and one in the front bedroom. The under-stairs cupboard is the perfect size to store our pram and car seat."

"We wanted a blank canvas, where we could unpack and enjoy life as a family straight away."

Why buy new?

For Kealy and Colby, a new build home provided the convenience and reassurance that they needed during a move with a young child.

"We chose a new build over a traditional home because of the reassurance that a warranty gave us, and the peace of mind that our home would be ready and waiting for us to move in without having to do any work to it structurally," Kealy says.

She explains: "We wanted a blank canvas, where we could unpack and enjoy life as a family straight away."

"The other main reason was the government schemes. We wouldn't have been able to afford such a lovely home otherwise - the fact that new builds have so many buying options makes it a lot easier for first time buyers like us. We bought during the middle of the pandemic, and so using a buying scheme really helped us out, and I'm sure helped many others too!"

"I would recommend buying a new build to anyone expecting, or who already has, young children."

An ideal place to grow up

In buying a new Persimmon home, Kealy and Colby found the simple buying process and the setting of a new development to be the ideal combination for their young family.

"I would recommend buying a new build to anyone expecting, or who already has, young children," says Kealy.

"The buying process was very smooth, the house is ready to move into as soon as you get the keys and you know that it’s a safe place for children to grow up in."

The sense of community that comes with a new development, and having local amenities within easy reach, has played a huge part in the family feeling settled.

Keely says: "There is definitely a sense of community here, we have such lovely neighbours who also have young children. Everyone one is always so friendly and I’ve made some lovely friends within the estate!"

"The nearest nursery is a 10-minute walk, there is a school being built on our estate along with a few shops, so the location is perfect for young families."
