Chellaston

Chellaston has a hilltop vantage point just outside Derby. Its natural setting has helped it to keep a suburban village feel, and it’s a popular residential area between the city and the countryside below the Derby Southern Bypass. It’s big enough to have its own amenities close to your new home, with the benefit of Derby as its backup for all the extras. Chellaston looks to Derby for business and industry and to the Peak District National Park for time-out.

Getting around the East Midlands

The towns and cities of the East Midlands have the M1 in common. It passes between Derby and Nottingham, about 8 miles east of Chellaston. The Derby Southern Bypass, the A50, joins it at Junction 24A. Once you’re on the motorway you’ll have easy access to Sheffield to the north and Leicester to the south. To the west, the A50 connects you with Stoke-on-Trent and the M6. The A38 is the cross-country route to Birmingham, via Burton upon Trent. Derby’s railway station gives you East Midlands, CrossCountry and Northern train services, and there’s a useful local station at Peartree between Chellaston and the city centre. Arriva Derby operates the local bus services and East Midlands Airport is 7 miles away at Castle Donington.

All the essentials

Chellaston has your day-to-day needs covered. There’s a Co-op, a Tesco Express, a Lidl, a couple of convenience stores, a garage, a Post Office, a pharmacy, an independent butcher and several pubs. For families, there’s a children’s playground, a library, a nature reserve and four schools. Children can attend Chellaston Infant School, Chellaston Junior School, Homefields Primary School and Chellaston Academy for senior school and sixth form. Chellaston Park offers 3G floodlit courts, grass pitches and a cricket pitch, as well as a playground.

All the extras

With Derby city centre just 4 miles away, you’ve got an easy trip into town for high street shopping, for the atmosphere of the historic Cathedral Quarter, the Derbion Shopping Mall (Intu Derby) – which includes restaurants and a cinema - and the Kingsway Retail Park. There are several leisure centres to choose from in Derby too. Sinfin, the neighbouring area, has a golf course, and Elvaston, on the other side of Chellaston, has a country park with a lake and woodlands to explore.
