Getting around the East Midlands

The towns and cities of the East Midlands have the M1 in common. It passes between Derby and Nottingham, about 8 miles east of Chellaston. The Derby Southern Bypass, the A50, joins it at Junction 24A. Once you’re on the motorway you’ll have easy access to Sheffield to the north and Leicester to the south. To the west, the A50 connects you with Stoke-on-Trent and the M6. The A38 is the cross-country route to Birmingham, via Burton upon Trent. Derby’s railway station gives you East Midlands, CrossCountry and Northern train services, and there’s a useful local station at Peartree between Chellaston and the city centre. Arriva Derby operates the local bus services and East Midlands Airport is 7 miles away at Castle Donington.
