Gorebridge
This popular commuter town has Edinburgh well in its sights just 15 miles to the north. The Pentland Hills Regional Park, with nine peaks and panoramic views of the historic capital, are to the west. The sandy beaches and coastal golf courses of East Lothian are to the east. If you head through the Borders, you are well on your way to England, crossing into the Northumberland National Park 50 miles to the south. With a sociable high street, a train station, a leisure centre and a country park, Gorebridge is a family-friendly place for a new home.

Getting around
Gorebridge is on the A7, one of the main routes into Edinburgh via Dalkeith, all the way from Carlisle. The city centre is about 10 miles away, taking approximately 35 minutes to drive. In Dalkeith it joins the capital’s ring road, the A720, giving you easy access to all the main A roads that radiate out from the city, as well as to the M8 to Glasgow, the M9 to Falkirk and the M90 which crosses the Firth of Forth at Queensferry before heading up to Perth. Edinburgh Airport is less than 20 miles away via the A720, taking about an hour by car. Taking a train into Edinburgh Waverley from Gorebridge is a great option. There are regular services and the average journey time is around 30 minutes. Lothian Buses are another option, with a journey time into Edinburgh of around 45 minutes.
Going to school
A popular residential town needs to have a good choice of schools. Gorebridge has four primary schools; Gorebridge Primary, Stobhill Primary, St Andrews RC Primary and Gore Glen Primary. Secondary schools in the catchment area are Newbattle Community High School and St David’s RC High School in Dalkeith, and Lasswade High School in Bonnyrigg. These secondary schools are between 4 – 5 miles away.
Going shopping
Gorebridge’s high street has a great range of local shops and convenience stores, including a Scotmid Co-op. There’s a Tesco Superstore, a Morrisons, and a Lidl at Newbattle. For high street stores, and to make a day of it, Edinburgh city centre is a fantastic shopping destination.
Going out
For the great outdoors, the Vogrie Country Park is under 3 miles away. From children’s activities to horse-riding, the park is a great place to take the family. The Pentland Hills Regional Park is a 20-mile-long range of hills, with reservoirs, walks, bird-watching and amazing views from the peaks. The capital is the place to go for cinema, theatre, eating out and international events such as the Fringe Festival. For day trips to the seaside, follow the A1 on its coastal route to Berwick-on-Tweed and Northumberland, choosing between seaside resorts and wild remote beaches.
