Lothian Country Buses are another option, with services into the capital running every 30 minutes.
Leisure and pleasure
East Calder and adjoining Livingston both have excellent leisure centres – the one in Livingstone includes a pool. Close to Junction 2 of the M8, the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena is a great place to climb, clip and climb, scramble, softplay or gym. If your favourite pursuits don't have a roof, head into the Pentland Hills on one of the walking routes from the A70 and enjoy stunning views from East Kip. For a gentler walk, try the Almondell & Calderwood Country Park – it’s only a 15-minute drive away.
Great schools
You can walk your children to school, to either St Pauls RC Primary School or to East Calder Primary School. Older children can attend High Schools in West Calder and Livingstone; or Edinburgh has some excellent independent school options. For further education,, there's the West Lothian College in Livingstone - a popular option for its wide range of courses - it’s only three miles away and there’s a regular bus service.
