Living in Ashford

Capital, coast and ‘The Garden of England’

With the Great Stour River running through the centre of the town, Ashford is settled at the southern edge of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Known as the ‘Garden of England’, Kent’s rolling hills, beautiful coastline and picturesque villages make it a hotspot for lovers of the outdoors. Other leisure spots favoured by locals include Conningbrook Lakes, and Godinton House and Gardens.

And for city and coastal adventures, the town is less than an hour’s drive away from central London, and under half an hour from the pretty seaside town of Folkestone.

An abundance of amenities

With so much to see and do, the attractive town centre is home to a wide range of independent stores, boutiques, restaurants and cafes – plus luxury and high-street brands that make it a shopping destination. There is a local weekly market and farmers’ market, which gives the town a wonderful community feel. The surrounding villages also offer a wealth of welcoming pubs and eateries to  enjoy.

For leisure, the town’s Green Corridor is made up of local parks, recreation grounds and green spaces, offering quiet places to enjoy nature, exercise or spend time with family. Among the most popular attractions are the 17-acre Victoria Park and The Warren Nature Reserve. For growing families, the town offers a wealth of primary and secondary schools, including previously ‘outstanding’ rated options such as Great Chart Primary School.

Incredible connections

Providing regular train services to London, Ashford railway station includes high-speed services which take you to London St Pancras in under 40 minutes. Conveniently placed for access to the M20 motorway, the town has easy access north to Maidstone and south to Folkestone. Plus, other A roads take you to the various villages and towns throughout the county.

For international travel, Southend and Heathrow airports are both an hour and a half away by car. And if you fancy a trip across the channel, the LeShuttle at Folkestone is just a 20-minute drive away, and the ferry at Dover is a 45 minute drive.
