Living in Ashford

Everything on your doorstep

Ashford has everything you could want from a large town – a sense of community and identity, yet with all the shops, facilities and attractions you could need. The attractive town centre is home to a wide range of independent stores, boutiques and high street brands, with many of the latter to be found in County Square Shopping Centre and Park Mall Shopping Centre in the middle of town. Another highly popular retail destination is the McArthur Glen Designer Outlet, which is located south of the town centre and offers a wealth of luxury and high street names, plus restaurants.

If you want to shop local, pay a visit to Ashford Town Market, which takes place on the Lower High Street three days a week, and the monthly farmers’ market at the same site.

When it comes to dining options you’ll be spoilt for choice – there are numerous eateries around the town centre, with more mouthwatering pubs and restaurants to be found in the surrounding villages.

Explore the great outdoors

Known as the ‘Garden of England’, Kent’s rolling hills, beautiful coastline and picturesque villages make it a hotspot for lovers of the outdoors. Ashford is no exception: the town’s Green Corridor is made up of local parks, recreation grounds and green spaces, offering quiet places to enjoy nature, spend time with family, walk, cycle or run. Among the most popular attractions are 17-acre Victoria Park and The Warren nature reserve.

Other leisure spots favoured by local include Conningbrook Lakes, Godlinton House and Gardens, and, on rainy days, the Stour Leisure Centre.

Superb transport links

Ashford’s mainline railway station provides regular train services to London, including the Javelin High-Speed trains which takes you to London St Pancras in just 38 minutes. For road travel, the town is conveniently placed for access to the M20 motorway, linking north to Maidstone and south to Folkestone.

Travel abroad couldn’t be easier: the Eurotunnel at Folkestone is just a 20-minute drive away, the ferry at Dover is 45 minutes away, and the Ashford International Eurostar service is set to reopen in 2022, meaning you could be in Paris in just 2 hours! If your destination is reached by plane, Southend and Heathrow airports are both an hour and a half away.
