Bridgwater welcomes new Affordable Homes for local people

The company behind the Westminster Walk development in Bridgwater has handed over the latest tranche of homes to a local housing association.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley marked the occasion on-site with LiveWest, part of Bromford Flagship LiveWest, who will take over management of the properties. They were joined by Somerset Council’s Lead Member for Adult Services, Housing, and Homelessness, Cllr Sarah Wakefield.

10 properties have been transferred this summer on the fifth and final phase of the development. When complete, 43 homes will have been handed over across the whole site to help meet housing need in this part of Somerset.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley and Hallam Land Management secured outline planning permission to deliver 2,000 homes in northeast Bridgwater, including retail spaces, leisure facilities, a new primary school, and other facilities.

The accredited five-star housebuilder has sold out its properties at Westminster Walk but has nearby outlets in Backwell, Yatton, and Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset.

Cllr Sarah Wakefield –Lead Member for Adults Services, Housing, and Homelessness for Somerset Council – said: “I am delighted to know that these new, much-needed properties will soon be home to local people from Somerset.

“Developments like these are crucial means of delivering affordable homes across our county, providing housing security to families and individuals, so I thank Persimmon and LiveWest for inviting me to see them prior to their forthcoming occupation.”
