Club looking forward to first summer trip in five years
29 January 2026
The members of Bexhill Gateway Club haven’t had a summer day out since before Covid – but all of that is set to change this year thanks to the South East region.
The five-star team donated £4,000 of Community Champions funding to the club, which supports adults with a range of learning difficulties. The money will help them pay for a summer of fun.
Cllr Connor Winter, Rother District Council Member for Bexhill St Marks, volunteers with the club and helped secure the funding, he said: “We are grateful to Persimmon Homes for this generous donation which will make such a world of difference to the 60-plus members who use the club each week.
“For some, this is their only outing of the week, and we have a real mix of ages from 14 through to 65. With this funding we can go that step further and bring back our summer day trips to really boost our clients and give them something to look forward to.”
Danny Wood, Operations Director for Persimmon Homes South East, said: “We are delighted to be able to support the club and it is humbling to hear how hard the volunteers work to give their members the opportunity to enjoy activities we take for granted.
“We are looking forward to seeing photos from the day trips they are planning this summer.”
