College Gets Early Christmas Present from Housebuilder
24 December 2025
Tyne Metropolitan College in North Tyneside has received a sack load of bricks from national housebuilder Persimmon.
Local MP Mary Glindon joined representatives from the college and Persimmon this week for a tour of the college’s construction department to see the bricks being put to use by learners at the college.
9,000 bricks have been donated by the housebuilder, enough to build a 3-bedroom semi-detached house.
The materials will be used to support the training of local apprentices, full-time students, and adult learners at the college.
Mary Glindon MP said:
“The better the bricklayer, the more they can keep us ever safe and warm against external forces that may huff and puff to blow our houses in.
“This generous gift of bricks can boost the abilities of our apprentices to be better at their trade and is very welcome.”
Steven Turnbull, Deputy Head (Apprenticeships, Construction and Engineering) Tyne Metropolitan College, said:
“This contribution not only provides valuable financial support but also gives our learners the opportunity to train using industry-quality materials that reflect real site conditions.
“We are proud of our excellent staff, who support learners on a daily basis and continually strive for excellence in their delivery. It is fantastic to see Persimmon Homes actively working with local colleges and investing in the future workforce, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity to develop a partnership and work closely with them in the future.”
Richard Cook, Persimmon North East Land Director, said:
“We’re delighted to support Tyne Met College with this donation. At Persimmon, we’re passionate about investing in the next generation of talent and ensuring that learners and apprentices have the skills and equipment they need.
“It was a pleasure to visit Tyne Met College to meet staff and students. We hope this donation goes far in helping to students to develop and improve.”
