Councillors give green light to new homes in Wakefield
21 August 2026
Plans for more than 100 homes in Wakefield have been given the green light.
Wakefield Councillors have approved plans by Persimmon Homes for 103 new homes on Mayfields Way, South Kirkby, on Thursday.
The site is allocated for housing development in the Wakefield Local Plan, and the development will see a range of 2, 3 and 4-bedroom homes built in close proximity to local shops and services. All of these homes will be fitted with EV chargers and air source heat pumps.
Communal open space, including a children’s play area, will also be provided on the development.
Persimmon will also make contributions towards upgrading local bus stops and enhancing public rights of way in the local area.
The homes provided will be compliant with the Homes for Nature commitment made by Persimmon – meaning that 1 bat and bird box per home will be provided, as well as hedgehog highways.
James Parkin, Persimmon West Yorkshire Land Director said: “We’re delighted to have these plans for new, high-quality homes approved.
“This site will provide a wide mix of different house types which we believe will prove popular with local homebuyers.”
