Essex first in Group to introduce ground source heating
22 April 2026
The Essex region is celebrating two successful land purchases in the space of a week – with work starting on one within a matter of days.
The business secured a site off Broad Street Green Road in Heybridge, Maldon for 281 much-needed new homes in March, after gaining planning consent on appeal last year.
Willow’s Reach, as it will be known, will bring a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes for private sale as well as 140 homes to be delivered in partnership with a housing association offering shared ownership and homes for rent – meeting local housing need in Maldon
The revolutionary scheme will see us introduce Ground Source Heating for the first time, utilising renewable heat from the ground providing major carbon reduction and very high energy efficiency.
Richard Hush, Managing Director for Persimmon Homes Essex, said:
“This new technology can significantly lower energy bills for future customers and which is critically important in the current climate.”
Work has now started on site with the first homeowners expected to move in before Christmas this year. Sales have been launched from the Scarlett Mews development in neighbouring Tiptree.
Just days later the Essex team completed on a second land purchase, for a site south of Aveley, in Thurrock.
Benefitting from outline permission for 80 units, the team are now preparing a reserved matters application to submit in the coming weeks. Work is expected to start on site in 2027.
Richard added:
“We have previously completed developments in Aveley, including the redevelopment of Aveley FC. We therefore have exceptional knowledge of the town and local area and fully expect our latest scheme to be very popular.”
He continued:
“This is a sign of our ambitious growth plans in Essex as we help to meet the ever-increasing needs of first-time buyers, families and those in housing need locally.”
