Exeter community gets financial boost from Persimmon
01 July 2026
Newcourt Community Centre has been awarded £2,000 from our South West business.
Persimmon Homes South West has donated the funds as part of our Community Champions programme which seeks to reward good causes and much-valued organisations in the areas in which it builds.
It follows the handover of a nearby 100% Affordable Housing development to a local housing association, LiveWest, who joined both parties for the cheque presentation alongside local city councillor, James Cookson.
The Centre has used the funds for vital maintenance work and upgrading its facilities, allowing it to widen its offering for the local community.
Persimmon has a significant presence in Devon, especially near Exeter with two outlets in Tithebarn on the city’s outskirts. Homes at Ashworth Place and Cherrywood Grange are available from £229,995.
The Community Champions scheme sees £700,000 donated across Britain each year. Recent local recipients include Cranbrook Education Campus, South West Blood Bikes, Broadclyst Parish Council, and the Royal Devon Hospitals Charity.
Marking the donation, Persimmon Homes South West Sales Director Stacey Harris said:
“As we approach the end of our work in Newcourt – bringing 40 new homes to help local people achieve secure housing and get on the housing ladder – we wanted to give some assistance to a nearby institution – and Newcourt Community Centre fits the bill perfectly.
“Persimmon is determined to leave a positive and lasting legacy wherever we build, and we know just how important local amenities are for residents, so we wanted to strengthen Newcourt Community Centre for the benefit of local people”
Rachel Pattison, Newcourt Community Association Manager, added:
“I would like to thank Persimmon for their generous donation. Their support has enabled us to refurbish our kitchen and upgrade the centre spaces, creating a more welcoming and practical environment for local families and residents.
“We are also looking forward to providing holiday club and stay-and-play opportunities at a subsidised cost for local people, all made possible by donations like this. We are incredibly grateful for Persimmon’s commitment to supporting the community.”
Cllr James Cookson, Exeter City Councillor for Topsham ward, commented:
“I am very pleased to see Persimmon support a great local asset like Newcourt Community Centre. It is clearly a significant boost for the Centre who are able to expand on their amazing offering for Newcourt residents and know they appreciate the helping hand.”
