Fairfields delivers lasting legacy for Monkton as 286-home development reaches completion

23 June 2026

South Ayrshire community concludes five-year build with major housing delivery, £1.5m+ investment, heritage protection and apprenticeships success.

A major housing development in Monkton has reached completion after five years of construction, delivering 286 new homes alongside significant investment, skills opportunities and heritage preservation for the local area.

Persimmon Homes West Scotland has completed its Fairfields development in South Ayrshire, which has transformed the site since work began in 2020. The development provides a mix of homes ranging from two-bedroom terraces to five-bedroom detached properties, designed to support first-time buyers, growing families and downsizers.

In total, 50 homes were transferred to Riverside Housing Association to help support local people in housing need. Alongside housing delivery, Persimmon invested more than £1.56 million in local education, as well as funding for traffic signal improvements and cycle storage facilities.

Through its Community Champions initiative, Persimmon has also supported a number of local organisations during the course of the development, including Monkton Gala Day and other community events and groups.

The development is also notable for its careful integration of local heritage, with two listed structures alongside the Monkton Windmill and Macrae Monument preserved within the site. Working with Historic Environment Scotland and local partners, the layout was designed to protect these features while opening them up to the public through new walkways and interpretation boards.

Fairfields has also delivered a strong skills legacy, with a number of apprentices starting their careers on the site and gaining valuable on-the-job experience.

Among them was Chantelle Muir, Persimmon Homes West Scotland’s first female apprentice bricklayer from Ayr, who began her journey on the development and has since gone on to achieve record-breaking success at construction competitions across Britain.

Chris Logan, Persimmon Homes West Scotland Managing  Director, said "Fairfields has delivered much more than new homes. It has created a lasting community, protected important heritage assets and provided opportunities for young people to start their careers in construction.

“We’re proud of the legacy this development leaves behind in Monkton and the wider South Ayrshire area.”

Persimmon are delivering a number of developments around Ayrshire.
