A rugby club is celebrating after netting a donation they say will help them “grow and develop”.
Bronte Barbarians ARLFC, in Castleford, received a £3,000 donation from Persimmon Homes after applying to our Community Champions scheme.
The club say funds will go towards developing their women’s team.
Leader of Wakefield Council, Karl Johnson, was recently on-hand with representatives from Persimmon for a cheque presentation at the club.
Cllr Karl Johnson, Leader of Wakefield Council, said: “I’ve seen the positive impact that Persimmon’s Community Champion scheme can have and welcome their commitment to invest in our communities.”
Antony Tonks, Bronte Barbarians ARLFC Coach, said: “This year we celebrate 10 years of delivering rugby league within our community.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to help promote a healthy and inclusive environment where people of all ages and backgrounds can get involved, be part of a team, keep fit, meet new friends and enjoy rugby league in the heartland of so many elite clubs giving young players opportunities to turn a hobby into a career.
“We’re especially proud to see so many of our girls represent Yorkshire and England, as well as progress into clubs such as Featherstone, Wakefield, Leeds, York and Huddersfield. Many of our young boys have also earned scholarship opportunities with Wakefield and Castleford.
“The funds kindly provided by Persimmon Homes will help us continue supporting young people in sport, while also helping our women’s team continue to grow and develop.”
James Parkin, Persimmon West Yorkshire Land Director, said: “It was a pleasure to visit Bronte Barbarians and meet Antony, staff and players to see first-hand the important work they are doing in the community.
“We are proud to support the club and we hope this donation goes far.”
