Eye is a small rural town to the North of Suffolk, with a big history. Dominating the skyline, the landmarks of Eye Castle and the Church of St Peter & St Paul date back over a thousand years – people have been living here since the Stone Age.

Today, your new home, Eye, is a compact modern town centre with everything you could need day-to-day, including convenience stores, butchers, hairdressers and banks as well as cosy cafes, pubs and restaurants. Eye has through-education from nursery to secondary school, as well as a Health Centre that serves the town and local villages. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and perched on the River Dove, Eye has lots of opportunities for outdoor recreation, walking and cycling, so whether you’re looking for new areas to hike and bike or just want to enjoy the serenity of rural living, Eye has something for everyone.

Living in Eye

Great shopping on your doorstep

All the essential shops are on your doorstep including a convenience store and local butchers and bakers. For a bigger selection of supermarkets, Diss is just five miles away. For full-on retail therapy, you can drive from your new house in Eye to the larger towns of Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds or head to the cathedral city of Norwich for a full day of shopping and eating out.

Great travel links

Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Norwich are all about 20 miles away, making Eye a really convenient home base. From nearby Diss, on the Norfolk border, you can pick up the A1066 and the A143, though you’ll soon get to know the little cross-country routes that link with the main routes.

The nearest railway station to your new home is Diss - from here you can catch a train, making the most of the local services as well as the connection to London Liverpool Street. The average journey time by train into Ipswich is 24 minutes, to Norwich it’s slightly less, and to Stowmarket, it’s just over 10 minutes. Your new build in Eye is well served by the local bus service - and if you'd like to jet off Norwich International Airport is about an hour’s drive.

A great day out

Ipswich, Norwich and Bury St Edmonds will give you cinema, theatre, family entertainment venues and nights out, while the coastal towns of Southwold, Thorpeness, Aldeburgh and Orford will give you a refreshing and invigorating day out by the sea.

The Thetford Forest Park and the Suffolk Coast & Heaths Area of Natural Beauty will give you unspoilt countryside, though just setting off cross-country to explore will uncover picture-postcard villages, country pubs and fabulous walks. But remember, with a new house in Eye, you have excellent walking from your front door!
