Cambuslang

New homes in Cambuslang

Cambuslang is tucked neatly next to the River Clyde, on the eastern outskirts of the great city of Glasgow. The city centre is only 6 miles away, so this is a great option for commuters. Its economy has shifted over the years and the traditional hard-working industries of the Clyde have given way to the economy of light industry. There’s always a gentle knock-on effect and Cambuslang is now a popular choice for families and professionals, with the benefits of city life on one hand and easy access to the green spaces of the Clyde Valley on the other.

Living in Cambuslang

On the edge

The advantage of being on the edge of the city is a quick get-away when you need it. Junction 2A of the M74 is a short hop north of Cambuslang on the A763, and to the east, the M73 is the link to the M8.  The M74 takes you right into the city, and to the south, it joins forces with the A74(M) heading to Carlisle. Below the town, the A725 and A726 create a cross-country link between the M74 and the M77, via East Kilbride. The M77 sets off for Kilmarnock and the coast at Irvine. It’s just as easy to get to Edinburgh, 45 miles east, on the M8.  Cambuslang is served by three train stations, Cambuslang, Kirkhill and Newton, with the train journey into Glasgow Central taking an average of 13 minutes. There are several bus routes through town too and FirstBus Glasgow has the lion’s share of the bus services into the city. Glasgow Airport, at Paisley, is just 13 miles away.

In the town

Cambuslang’s town centre puts its local shops within easy walking reach of each other on Main Street. A little out of town but still within easy reach, the Rutherglen Shopping Centre and the Kingsgate Retail Park give you some more options. Supermarkets include ALDI, a Tesco Express, a Tesco Superstore and Morrisons. There are community parks, golf clubs and a great leisure centre in neighbouring Rutherglen. For your children, there are plenty of primary schools to choose from, and the local secondary schools include Cathkin High School, Trinity High School and Rutherglen High School. South Lanarkshire College has a fabulous purpose-built campus at East Kilbride and includes links with the University of the West of Scotland, opening up the range of courses and opportunities for the community.

In the city

Glasgow takes care of your city centre shopping, a taste of culture and history, your day trips and your nightlife. With a maritime trade and ship-building heritage, the city is a national treasure for Scotland; home to the Scottish Opera, The Scottish Ballet and the National Theatre of Scotland. It’s got a great music scene and it’s the place to go and the place to be seen in the art world. The icing on the cake is the foodie scene, with a welcoming café culture and restaurants for all tastes and budgets.
