Gartcosh

Your new home in Gartcosh has been a centre of Scottish industry for centuries, from coal to clay to iron. While the trains no longer shunt coal to Glasgow, investment has meant that the newly opened railway station can offer commuters a direct link into Glasgow city centre in around 20 minutes.

The village has a small selection of shops including a convenience store, chemist, grocers, hair salon and restaurant with takeaway. It also has its own nature reserve with walks to local Johnston Loch and it's own resident tea shop and plant nursery.

Easy ways to get around

The M8, M80 and M73 create a transport triangle around the area that has been designated as the Seven Lochs Wetland Park. From your new build, it’s 10 miles into Glasgow city centre, 20 miles to Glasgow Airport, four miles to Coatbridge for shopping centres and retail parks, and just over 40 miles to Edinburgh. Trains into Glasgow Queen Street take just 20 minutes. Local bus services include routes to Coatbridge, Moodiesburn, and the Glasgow Fort shopping and leisure centre.

All your shopping near to home

The area has all the basics covered with a village shop, grocers, chemist and a takeaway. There's also the Lochend garden centre tucked away on nearby Loch Johnston with a tea house serving delicious meals and cream teas overlooking the waters. The nearest supermarket and shopping complex is in the Faraday Retail Park in Coatbridge (4 miles) with an excellent selection of retailers and free parking. The Fort Shopping Centre on the way into Glasgow has great shopping, a Vue Cinema, a gym and several restaurant chains.

Surrounded by countryside with a nature reserve

Your beautiful new house is surrounded by open countryside and has Loch and woodland walks. The Nature Reserve is a haven for local wildlife and has Scotland's largest colony of great crested newts. Just a short drive south is the Drumpellier Country park with a large moorland, forest and parkland with trails, a fun children's playground, a garden and two lochs with pleasant walks. If you'd like to add golf clubs to that walk, the Mount Ellen Golf course is just a mile from your new house!

Plan days out

Head to the capital city of Edinburgh with its galleries, museums and great shopping, or East Lothian for fantastic golf courses. If you want to head for the hills, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park are within a short drive. If you want miles of sandy beaches, the M73, M74, and M77 will take you to Kilmarnock and from there it’s a short drive to the stunning Ayrshire coast.
