Living in Lanarkshire
This county puts you at the heart of the Scottish Lowlands. It’s the link between Glasgow, the rest of Scotland, and Carlisle just over the border from Gretna Green. Its countryside includes the Clyde Valley and the Strathclyde Country Park, and it’s home to the mighty River Clyde. Law is one of several small towns and villages that are a perfect starting point for the commute into Glasgow, just 20 miles away.
On the go
Law is close to the A73 Carlisle Road which runs from neighbouring Carluke up to Newhouse where it joins the M8 at Junction 6. From there it’s a 20-minute drive into Glasgow and a 50-minute drive into Edinburgh. The A71 passes the village to the north, on its way to Kilmarnock, and then Irvine on the Ayrshire coast. Law is linked to the A73 and the A71 by the B7011 which is the main road through the village. If you want to travel into Glasgow by train, it’s a few minutes drive to the train station at Carluke, 4 miles away, for services on the West Coast mainline. The average journey time is 40 minutes. Glasgow Airport is approximately 30 minutes away via the M74, and Edinburgh Airport is just a little further, via the M8.
On the school run
You’ll have a lovely local primary school for your young children, and the two local towns offer secondary education nearby – Carluke High School and St Aidans High School in Wishaw. South Lanarkshire College at East Kilbride is a popular option for further education. It’s 7 miles from central Glasgow and there are public transport routes from Carluke and Wishaw. Otherwise, Glasgow itself is a great place for students to continue their education.
Shopping trips
Law has its own local facilities and convenience stores, with more choices in Carluke and Wishaw, where you’ll also find the national supermarket chains, ALDI, Tesco, Morrisons and Lidl. You can save Glasgow and Edinburgh for shopping trips that double up as great days out.
