Long walks in the country
Take a short drive up to the village of Rivington, just seven miles to the north and either stretch your legs on the circular walk to Rivington Pike or get out your road bike and ride in the shadowy wheels of cycling giants across the West Pennine Moors. If you'd like a more sedate stroll, stay on the level at the Rivington Reservoir, part of the Rivington Country Park - and just a stone's throw from your new house.
Getting from A to B with road and rail
Whether you're travelling for work or leisure, your new home is well placed for joining motorways across the North West. The M61 Manchester (15 miles) to Preston (23 miles) motorway passes to the northern edge of town. It joins the M60 around the north of Manchester and then the M62 all the way to Huddersfield (35 miles) and Leeds (50 miles). The A58 runs through the town to Wigan (6 miles) and from there it’s an easy connection to the M6 (8 miles), or you can continue west on the M58 into Liverpool (38 miles). Follow the A58 to the east and you’ll join the A676 into Bolton (5 miles).
You’ve got convenient public transport services on hand too, with frequent train and bus services into Manchester, 12 miles away. It takes an average of 35 minutes to get to Manchester Piccadilly by train, a bonus if you commute or enjoy a big night out.
